If you’re looking to create a bespoke and personalised engagement ring or remodel an old jewellery, this post is perfect for you!
If you’re looking to create bespoke wedding rings well, it’s still for you!
We asked some tips to Maria Spanou, designer of Sofianni, a lovely brand made in London.
“My first experience with bridal jewellery was when, while studying jewellery design at Central Saint Martins, I was working for a jewellery shop in Kings Road.
A bride-to-be came to the shop looking for some discreet jewellery to complement her wedding outfit. After one hour of consultation she left the shop with one of our chunkiest necklaces, matching bracelet and earrings, all to wear on the big day. A month letter she came back to tell me what a success this had been and how, choosing something closer to her personal style and against all norms had really made her day.
Following my own advice, when my time came, I designed and made a statement pair of earrings to match my engagement ring, which I have also designed. I knew I like bold and I like color, and what I came up with is the attached sapphires, diamonds and asymmetric aqua marines pair of earrings.
Years later, I feel that I choose well, because I choose according to who I am.
Since then, I have designed many engagement and wedding rings. What I always advice future brides is that consultation is key. Talking to your preferred designer about what you really want, who you are and what you like is the best way for achieving optimum result. And it is really worth putting the effort in, since this is the one item of jewellery you will always wear.
It can be classic or modern, with stones or without, fitted to your engagement ring, or self-standing. But has to be timeless and must tell a story about who you and your beloved one are.”
